Volume I, Issue II December 2006
Happy holidays everyone!
My name is Marie Francisco, and this is
my first year with Coast City Ballet and
its Board of Directors! I am a longtime
friend of the Company’s Director Clara
D’Autilia. In fact, we were almost
inseparable from the moment we met at
our first ballet class together. Clara and
I shared a love for classical ballet. Now
stop momentarily, close your eyes, and
see Miss Clara as a young dancer in her
daily uniform: black leotard, tights, ballet
shoes, and hair pulled tightly in a bun.
You’ll see a definite reflection of what
a day in the life of a Coast City Ballet
dancer or a Pacific Dance Center
student is like. A dance student is
prepared. A dance student is ready to
learn something new every day. A dance
student is disciplined. A dance student
loves to dance! Miss Clara brings this
same love of dance, the same
undeniable discipline, and especially her
absolute passion to this company. Part
of what sustains her passion for the
company is knowing that through
Coast City Ballet, we can
all expose the community to the arts and
provide them with the opportunity to
participate in the art of dance.
As active participants in the community,
it is Coast City Ballet’s goal to foster
excellence not only in the arts, but also
in education. With this in mind, CCB’s
Board of Directors developed an
effective program to invite local area
schools to participate. This year the
CCB offered a wonderful incentive for
area students who have worked hard to
display academic excellence called:
Coast City Ballet’s “Excellence in
Education!” Awards Program. This
program awards students who have
displayed academic excellence and
excellence as model citizens with
tickets to see the magic of the “The
Nutcracker.” This awards program is not
only a great incentive for students, but
also an opportunity to expose them to
the wonderful art of ballet. Coast City
Ballet thanks this year’s participating
schools! Non-profit organizations such
as our dance company are vital

to supporting children and young adults’
growth, broadening their horizons, and
presenting them with opportunities of
creative expression. To be able to bring
this program and other programs to the
community, we would love your support!

A parent’s “Pointe”
My daughter Raquel started dancing at Pacific Dance Center in September 2004.
Raquel has been in two June Programs and now two Nutcracker’s since starting at
PDC. Raquel lives to dance and PDC has given her the knowledge and self-
confidence to express her skills. I asked Raquel
what she loves about PDC, and she said “PDC is my second family”. WOW!! Thank
you Pacific Dance Center for all you have given us, your hard work and love for our
children is extraordinary.

What Dance Means to Me
Dance means laughing.
Dance means fun
Dance is thrill
Tears come with dance,
But it’s worth it.
I dance because it is fun. I enjoy it a lot because there are lots of movements that you
can learn. When I dance, I feel like I’m flying because when you do your turns, it almost
lifts you off the ground. When I feel depressed, I always practice my splits, and it
cheers me up. Whenever you need a friend, you can go to dance class, and everyone
there helps you and laughs with you. Miss Clara is my favorite teacher, because when
she corrects me it makes me feel better because I know I can practice it at home and
be a better dancer. My dream is to become a principal dancer, or maybe a main
character in a ballet.

Student’s Corner
I have been dancing ballet since
preschool. Although I’ve been to many
different studios, Pacific Dance
Center is by far, the best. I love all of
the people at PDC and all the friends I’
ve made in my 3 years here. My
teachers are also people I can talk to if
I ever need them. This studio has
also helped me learn important life
lessons in participation and
responsibility.
This year, I am extremely exited to play
the leading role of Clara in “The
Nutcracker.” It has been extremely
challenging and it has made me delve
deep into becoming my character. I
have put a lot of time and hard work
into this part to help make this
production a successful one. I’m sure
this year’s production of “The
Nutcracker” will be a wonderful one
thanks to Miss Clara, Mr. Charles, and
Miss Aly, along with all of the dancers
that are participating in this
performance.
